Fred Gretsch, Jr.

Fred Gretsch, Jr. (1918-1995) was an American businessman and the President and owner of Gretsch Guitars, a manufacturer of guitars and other musical instruments. The company was founded by his father, Friedrich Gretsch, in 1883, and Fred Jr. took over the company in 1967 after the passing of his father.

Under Fred Jr.'s leadership, Gretsch Guitars became one of the most well-known and respected guitar manufacturers in the world, known for producing high-quality, hand-crafted instruments. He was known for his dedication to preserving the legacy of the Gretsch brand and for his commitment to maintaining the company's high standards of craftsmanship.

Fred Gretsch Jr. was also a passionate supporter of music education and the arts, and he established the Gretsch Foundation, which provides funding for music programs in schools and other educational institutions.

In the 1980s, Gretsch Guitars was sold to the Baldwin Piano Company and Fred Gretsch Jr. retired as the CEO, but remained involved in the company as a consultant until his passing in 1995. Gretsch Guitars are still in production today and continue to be highly sought after by musicians and collectors alike.
