Cyndi Lauper is an American pop singer and songwriter, best known for her hit songs in the 1980s such as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "Time After Time," and "True Colors." She was born in Queens, New York City in 1953, and began her career as a musician in the 1970s, performing in local clubs and bars.

Lauper attended Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York City. After graduating, she began performing as a solo artist and released her first solo album, "She's So Unusual," in 1983. The album was a commercial success, and it produced several hit singles, including "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "She Bop," and "Time After Time."

She has sold over 50 million records worldwide, and her success helped to pave the way for other female musicians in the 1980s. She was also known for her distinctive fashion sense, which was heavily influenced by punk and New Wave style.

She continues to perform and record music and has also expanded her career to acting, with performances in films and television shows such as "Life with Mikey" and "Mad About You" and also Broadway productions like "Kinky Boots" for which she won the Tony award for Best Original Score.

Lauper is also an active philanthropist and has been a strong advocate for LGBT rights and HIV/AIDS awareness.
