by unconnected individuals, but must be attained, if at all, by association."

Who We Are-
The Richmond Hill Historical Society was founded
in the early 1980's as a chapter of the Queens Historical Society. After
more than a decade of inactivity The Richmond Hill Historical Society was
re-founded in 1997 as an independent not-for-profit, community based organization.
What We Do-
The Richmond Hill Historical Society endeavors
to preserve the past and promote the future of Richmond Hill through fostering
a better appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of its historic heritage
as embodied by its architectural legacy and the contributions of its past
and present residents.
The Richmond Hill Historical Society takes an active leadership or
collaborative role in preserving and revitalizing historic Richmond Hill
through education and resource exchange to the community on historic preservation,
restoration and rehabilitation of its historic homes, churches and commercial
buildings.
How We Do It-
- Sponsor Tours of Historic Homes
- Serve as a Clearing House for Restoration techniques and products
- Help match historic properties with interested buyers
- Welcome new homeowners to the community
- Sponsor lectures and exhibits that highlight Richmond Hill history
and the broader area of the Victorian period
- Work to secure Historic District status for portions of Richmond
Hill
- Cooperate with other organizations that share our goals and concerns
- Endeavor to archive and protect surviving records and personal
collections relating to Richmond Hill history and make it available
to students and scholars
